Allemann listed MyLaunchPad.com, which was registered at Moniker and sold via eNOM for $6,800. By listing the domain through Afternic’s DLS Premium service the name sold and was transferred using Afternic’s exclusive “Instant Transfer” technology. “I didn’t have to lift a finger to complete the transfer. Good PR can be a boon to any business—especially a newly-established company. Getting your name in the marketplace, being quoted as an expert or in some substantive way can drive traffic and grab the attention of potential customers. The problem? It’s often difficult for entrepreneurs to get on the radar of news outlets, and paid press releases can be expensive and are not always effective.

“HARO” – Help a Reporter Out—is a site that enables you to enter “pitches” highlighting your expertise. Every day thousands of reporters input requests detailing expertise needed in upcoming stories. They can look at your “pitches” to see if your expertise matches their need, or you can get daily emails on topics related to your business—enabling you to contact the reporter proactively.

Not Big Enough for Groupon? Dealpulp: a “Smaller Business” Alternatives

There’s an emerging business offering “social deals” to those who live in smaller towns and cities that aren’t yet on the radar for dominant players like Groupon, or LivingSocial.

This fast-growing sector is projected to top $3 billion in the next few years, which explains why Google recently proposed spending $6 billion to acquire Groupon.

DealPulp has made a business bringing its members nationwide “daily deal” discountsfrom online-only merchants, a la Groupon.

The twist? DealPulp includes both larger retailers like 1800Flowers.com and small players that you likely never heard of, such as ThredUp. ThreadUp is a children’s clothing exchange site touting itself as a Netflix for children’s apparel.

Of course, to take advantage you have to be online…so if you haven’t secured a domain and built out your website, you are missing out on a stellar business opportunity

The Online Future: Even Microsoft Office Is Going Virtual

Small business owners have varying levels of comfort and expertise when it comes to the online aspects of business—finding a great domain, conceptualizing (and perhaps creating) a company website, and employing virtual services to help support their business over time.

Get ready for the brave new world, entrepreneurs: even software stalwart Microsoft is giving a nod to services “in the cloud”.

A recent Entreprenuer.com review notes:

Unfortunately, small-business users may have little choice but to get comfortable with Office 365. Virtual businesses, those who travel a lot and those using web-based tools such as Google Apps, are likely to find Office 365 a manageable transition. But those not on the cutting edge of cloud computing may struggle…[still] there’s no escaping Microsoft’s commitment to Web-based versions of its Office products. Eventually you’re likely to simply have to start using Office 365.It’s just a question of when.”

Unhappily for business owners, you’ll still be on the hook for the original software plus a $6 per seat, per month bill.
