Partnership with NameJet & .DESI to Leverage Domain & Provide Launch Strategy
Afternic today launched an exclusive partnership with NameJet and Desi Networks, LLC to leverage its technology and distribution network to a new premium domain extension – .DESI. This partnership allows Afternic, the industry’s largest reseller network, to promote .DESI premium domains to a vast audience of potential buyers.
This new generic top-level domain (gTLD), “Desi”, is derived from Sanskrit and refers to the culture, people and products originating from the Indian sub-continent. Translated as “one from our country”, it has strong cultural relevance and further promotes the impact of emerging markets to the global community. “We wanted to find a partner who understood the value proposition and shared our long term vision for dot-DESI,” said .DESI Chief Operating Officer Sid Ohri. “We believe Afternic provided us with one of the best global platforms to launch dot-DESI. When combined with NameJet’s premier auction services we knew this was the right choice for dot-DESI.”
With this strategic partnership, Afternic plans to identify, appraise and broker the most valuable strings in .DESI, maximizing the revenue opportunity for this fast-growing region. Additionally, Afternic is set to promote the .DESI gTLD to its global network of registrars and hosting companies, maximizing the breadth of the Afternic global distribution network with NameJet, a long-standing partner and auction provider for the Sunrise period, where brand and trademark owners can secure their names. Next is the Landrush period, a way to purchase available domain names early. Last, general availability, where registrations open to the public and premium auctions occur.
Furthermore, Afternic’s technology and distribution network better streamlines domain trading through transparent, scalable processes, which opens up more quality domain inventory to millions of potential buyers around the world.
“This new domain name extension opens new doors to businesses entering the Indian sub-continent region,” said Afternic Chief Revenue Officer Bob Mountain. “In addition to dot-COM, and dot-ORG, registrants can now choose a relevant domain that resonates with ethnic communities. Our goal is to make more premium domains mainstream and accessible to the general public.”
