The Purchase Overview for Buyers, Available at GoDaddy

purchase-overview

Through the Afternic blog, we regularly bring you seller-side updates: new tools, new features, and new infrastructure to make selling simpler. But we also invest heavily in the buyer experience, through a partnership with GoDaddy.

Today we’re sharing one of those investments. We’ve introduced a dedicated purchase overview for buyers, built into the GoDaddy portfolio manager. It’s a significant upgrade to how buyers track and manage Afternic purchases made through GoDaddy, and it directly improves the experience for anyone buying your domains.

Introducing the Buyer Purchase Overview

As the world’s largest domain marketplace, Afternic processes more transactions than anyone else. Those transactions fall into two categories:

  1. Fast Transfer: Domain names are pre-authorized for transfer. The buyer purchases and receives the domain within minutes, with no manual intervention required.
  1. Standard Transfer: The seller might be required to provide an Auth Code or take other steps to deliver the domain. Buyers can receive the domain within the same day.

However the domain name is delivered, buyers can now track the progress through the purchase overview.

Until now, buyers relied on emails to get visibility into their Premium domain purchase status. While this worked, feedback from buyers of Afternic listings was clear: provide a centralized overview to serve purchases.

In 2025, we released the Transaction Assurance Dashboard for sellers, giving you visibility into pending sales, payout status, and TA communications from one screen. We took those learnings and, in partnership with GoDaddy, built a dedicated purchase overview that brings the same transparency to the buyer side.

The new overview is live globally, serving Afternic purchases through GoDaddy. It replaces the old email-led system with a centralized view where buyers can track status, review the full transaction timeline, and message the TA team directly.

Dashboard Overview

Buyers access the overview through a new Purchases tab on the Negotiations & Purchases page in the GoDaddy portfolio manager.

The Purchases tab lists every Afternic domain a buyer has purchased through their account, with columns for domain name, delivery status, purchase price, and purchase date.

Clicking into a specific purchase opens the detailed transaction page, which includes:

  • Progress bar. A visual 4-stage tracker: Order Placed, Initiating Transfer, On the Way, Delivered. Each stage is marked as completed or in progress, so the buyer can see exactly where their purchase stands.
  • Transaction Activity feed. A timeline of every milestone and TA message associated with that purchase. No searching through emails to find the latest update.
  • Direct messaging. Buyers can message the Transaction Assurance team from inside the overview.
  • Transaction Summary panel. A sidebar with delivery status, Order ID, purchase price, purchase date, last updated, and a downloadable Payment Receipt.

Updated Communications

Alongside the overview, we’ve refined the automated emails that buyers receive during purchases. Each email links directly to the buyer’s purchase overview.

This brings the email and on-site experiences together for buyers. Buyers of Afternic domain names at GoDaddy now have clear, consistent visibility into the process.

Bringing Seller-Side Expertise to Buyers

The purchase overview gives buyers direct visibility into that process for the first time: real-time status, a full transaction timeline, and a direct line to the TA team. What used to happen behind the scenes is now visible to the buyer from start to finish.

We’re excited to bring our seller-side technology and learnings to the buyer experience. Have feedback on the buyer purchase overview or ideas for what we should build next? Reach out to us at domaincommunity@godaddy.com
